Math 8

OUR FOCUS:

  • Formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including modeling an association of bivariate data with a linear equation, and solving linear equations
  • Grasping the concept of function and using functions to describe quantitative relationships
  • Analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:

  • Be in your seat and ready to begin when the bell rings.
  • Come to class prepared.
  • Participate in all class activities.
  • Be courteous, considerate, and respectful to others.
  • Help keep the room in order.

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS:

You will be creating an interactive notebook (INB) in this class. This will be your ‘go-to’ resource for all there is to know about what you are learning in class. As you are learning and developing skills you will be building your own text book to be able to have as an available resource for now and years to come.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Daily assignments—10 points each
  • Tests—80 to 100 points each
    • You are allowed to retake any test. You will have one week after you have received your graded test to set up a time with me before or after school to take a similar test. I will record the better grade.
  • INB’s—100 points per quarter

MATERIALS NEEDED DAILY:

  • Notebook paper
  • Dry erase markers
  • Pencils (assignments must be completed in pencil)
  • Supply bag/box—colored pencils, markers, etc.
  • INB (first one will be provided for you)
  • Student planner (students are required to write down their assignment everyday)
  • Scientific calculator (optional)—one will be needed for future math classes

POLICY FOR ABSENT WORK:

Students are responsible for the material covered in class and all assignments while absent. It is your responsibility to come and get your missed assignments when you return to school.

POLICY FOR LATE WORK:

If you do not turn in an assignment the day it is due, you have the option of staying that day to complete it after school for full credit.  All other late work will not be accepted.

LEAVING THE CLASSROOM:

Please take care of all of your needs before class. Do not interrupt the lesson to ask permission to leave the room unless it is an emergency.

TUTORING:

I will be available for extra help both before school at 7:30 and after school until 4:00 (unless I have a prior engagement). Please let me know ahead of time if you plan on coming to see me.

CONTACT INFORMATION:

  • The best way to reach me is through email at hdroege@concordia.k12.mo.us
  • You may also reach me at school (463-2246) from 2:00 – 3:00 daily
